WHO WE ARE

The Organization’s Story: The Journey of WeCare Global Initiative

WeCare Global Initiative is a legally registered, non-profit, and non-governmental organization based in Ethiopia, committed to creating lasting impact in underserved communities. Our story began in February 2018 as a voluntary grassroots movement founded by a passionate group of young professionals from Ambo University, united by a shared vision of social equity and sustainable development.

Driven by compassion and a deep sense of community responsibility, the founding members diverse in their academic and professional backgrounds launched a series of community-based activities addressing the pressing social and economic challenges faced by marginalized populations in and around Ambo. For over three years, these efforts were entirely volunteer-led, emphasizing local ownership and active citizen engagement.

Recognizing the growing need and the potential for greater impact, the initiative took a transformative step and became formally registered in February 2021 under the name Ambo and Surrounding Relief Association (ASRA). Licensed by the Oromia General Attorney Bureau (License Number WB03-0563) in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 1113/2019, this milestone marked a new chapter of structured growth, resource mobilization, and strategic partnerships.

Establishment of WeCare Global Initiative

Following five years of dedicated service and expanding geographic reach, the organization was re-registered at the federal level as WeCare Global Initiative on August 13, 2025, with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Authority for Civil Society under Registry Number 7669 once again in alignment with the Ethiopian Civil Society Organization Proclamation No. 1113/2019. This registration allowed WeCare to extend its impact beyond regional boundaries and engage in broader, national development efforts.
